Texas can claim the number one foam hand as their own. The foam hand isn't as old as I thought it would be. But the creator of the foam hand has a sweet story that involves rags to riches and that determined spirit for success.

In 1978 former high school teacher, geral fauss came up with the #1 foam hand, since then it has become a universal symbol for the phrase 'we're number one' and is among the most popular pieces of US sports merchandising.
